Aoibhéann
Aoibhéann Bird is a science communicator, physicist, Scouter, SCUBA Diver, water lover, outdoor adventurer!

Increasing young people’s engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in innovative ways both inside and outside of the classroom is a personal passion of Aoibhéann. She has a BSc (Hons) in Applied Physics and PhD in Biomedical Sensors from Dublin City University and her principle research interests lie in the field of science education and outreach, specifically engaging and exciting an interest in the sciences in people of all ages.

Aoibhéann is a strong advocate for active citizenship, volunteering and empowering young people. In the evenings you can usually find her enjoying the outdoors with her Venture Scouts, supporting them to plan and run hiking expeditions and community projects. At the weekends you’ll probably find her whizzing around Dublin Bay on a boat and teaching students how to explore the hidden depths along the Irish coastline with her SCUBA diving club.

Phil
Phil Smyth is an award winning scientist with over 12 years experience in designing, developing and delivering public engagement programs all over Ireland. His principal research interests lie in the field of communication, specifically engaging and exciting an interest in the sciences in students of all ages.

He is a physicist and an engineer, loving all things weird, wonderful and explosive. He is also an accomplished presenter with RTÉ having written and presented on over 320 shows including his latest project, Home School Hub.

Philip’s strong technical background, coupled with his teaching and presenting experience have given him the ability to effectively explain complex scientific ideas to students, industry partners and the general public alike.

When not working, Philip goes to extremes to relax. This means you can find him flying around on a segway, jetski or a horse but not necessarily at the same time.
